5TH YEAR REMEMBRANCE OF GLORIOUS EXIT OF A RARE GEM "BISI KOMOLAFE".

It may look like remembrance of unbearable pain in the minds of her families, friends and fans but there is nothing we can do about it. As I, CyberProf-Alabi Samuel-Johnson NoWay ForOpposition promised all of us in this forum that I wouldn't be reluctant to keep us updated concerning past and present issues happening in the ancient city of Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria at large, I am hereby reminding us concerning the death of our beloved Ibadan actress who died in 2012.

GLOOM enveloped Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, going to 5 years as the body of popular Yoruba actress, Bisi Komolafe, was buried. Family members, friends, admirers and other sympathizers sobbed uncontrollably as people gathered to bid farewell to the talented actress.

The mass, which held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oke- Padre, Ibadan, was conducted by Rev. Father Benedict Ugwoegbu. Rev. Fr. Benedict Ugwoegbu, in his sermon said: “Death is no respecter of anybody. Everybody’s turn will come; do not let your hearts be troubled, trust in God. “As humans, we do not have any right to complain.

When man was brought to life there was no bargain, so there was no bargaining when the deceased was taken away. It has pleased God to take her life. We should be prepared for the coming of the Son of Man (Jesus). Her remains were later interred at the Catholic Church Cemetary, Oke Are, ibadan. Komolafe died of pregnancy complications at the University College Hospital (UCH) in the city while people were rejoicing for seeing the end of the year on December 31, 2012.

Areas like Mokola, Oke Padre, Oke-Itunu and Soka of the city were enveloped by mourning as the people went about wearing glooming faces. As early as 8:00 am, actors and actresses, under the aegis of Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners, assembled at the mortuary of the UCH to receive her corpse.

Wearing black T-shirts on which ‘Abeni Ija Sun Re o’ (Rest in peace)’ was inscribed, the mourners recounted memories and moments shared with late Komolafe. So were her siblings and other family members who wept profusely as the corpse was being prepared for final burial rites. Her mourning lover, Tunde Ijaoduola, declined comment when prompted by reporters. Some of her colleagues described her as a pleasant, easygoing, talented actress. They said that she would be greatly missed in the industry. One of them, Bolaji Amusan (a.k.a Baba Latin), described Komolafe’s death as “very shocking, sad and unexpected.”

“Bisi Komolafe was a promising upcoming actress. She was just too cool and too nice to be ignored. The family should take solace in the fact that to die young when the ovation is loudest is better than to live the stage unsung. I want other upcoming actors and actresses to take a cue from her lifestyle.

“As for her family members, I urge them to take solace in God, the giver of life. God gave her to us and at his own time, he decided to take her away,” he said. Prominent actors who attended the burial include Bimbo Oshin, Ayo Adesanya, Yinka Quadri, Muyiwa Adekola, Moji Olaiya, Femi Adebayo, Toyin Adegbola (a.k.a Asewo to re Mecca), Tayo Adeleye, and Toyosi Arigbabuwo. Others incude the Governor, ANTP, Lagos State, Akeem Alimi (a.k.a Ajala Jalingo), Jibola Dabo, Ireti Osayemi, Razaq Olayiwola (a.k.a ojo Pagogo), Sunny Alil, Fathia Balogun, Yomi Fash- Lanso, Taiwo Hassan (a.k.a. Ogogo).

The Governor, ANTP, Oyo State, Otunba Ayo Olabiyi, lamented Komolafe’s death and described it as: “a sad thing, but we believe it is the will of God. Life is a circle and we should be prayerful. Death is not common to our members. It appears common only because we are celebrities.” Komolafe, 27, grew up in Ibadan. She was said to have attended St Louis Girls Grammar School, Oke-Itunu, Ibadan.
