 A popular Ibadan-based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, has been released from the custody of the State Security Service (SSS), where he was detained for weeks. Mr Hamzat, who owns Agidigbo radio station in Ibadan, was detained at the SSS office in Ibadan on August 1. He was later transferred to the Abuja office of the agency. Individuals and groups, like the Association of Nigerian Comrades (ANC), have clamoured for the release of the broadcaster whose arrest was seen as unlawful and an infringement on press freedom. Narrating how he was arrested, the general manager of Agidigbo radio station, Ismail Idowu, said the SSS officers visited the radio station on July 31, demanding to see Mr Hamzat. The manager, along with three others who are interns at the broadcast office, were arrested and broadcast equipment at the office were taken by the officers afterwards. “For the whole day we searched for Hamzat and we could not find him. Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdul-Rosheed Adewale Akanbi The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has called on the Minister for Works, Power and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, to begin reconstruction project on the road that links Ibadan, Iwo and Osogbo. Oba Akanbi decried the pains the road users pass through on a daily basis, along the road, due to bad state of the highway at dangerous sections. He noted that the federal road is strategic to commercial activities between the people of Osun State and Oyo State and urged the minister to consider it for rehabilitation. “Transporting goods from the farms, for instance, is difficult with its attendant effects on prices of finished products.  To discourage our youths from taking to criminalities, we need to put our infrastructural facilities in place. INEC has issued certificate of return to Ekiti Governor-elect Fayemi The Ekiti State Governor- elect , Dr . A gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State, Prof. Adeolu Akande has advised the governor of Oyo State to consult host communities before he gives out their land for ranches. Prof Akande said ownership of  land is such an emotive issue that, if not well handled, could generate a  backlash in violence and destruction which will outweigh the economic advantages of such ranches. The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji and members of the Olubadan -In- Council, turned obas have disagreed on the order of the Olubadan barring the masquerades from dancing in any of the High Chiefs residence in this years Egungun festival. The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has blamed Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi for the recent failures of the All Progressives Party (APC) in the state. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who are found to be corrupt, risk being sacked and prosecuted, Mr Mutiu Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, has said. Agboke who gave the warning on Tuesday in Ibadan at the maiden Ramadan lecture organised by the commission, said that INEC would not hesitate in sacking and prosecuting any of its staff involved in corrupt practices. The theme of the lecture was “ Free, Fair and Credible Election – Role of INEC from Islamic Perspective.’’ Agboke said the mandate of the commission was to make election processes transparent, impartial, credible, free and fair. ”INEC has no interest in any of the political parties but to carry out its constitutional responsibilities. A Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, presided over by Justice Ayo Emmanuel, has struck out the suit filed by the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu and others against the State Government of Osun and Iwo Local Government. According to a release by the State of Osun Ministry of Justice Information Officer, Opeyemi Bello, the Olubadan had approached the Court, claiming that the paramount ruler of Ibadanland has native control over the Ogboru town which is presently under the control of Iwo Local Government in the State. He had also claimed that Lagelu Local Government Area in Oyo State has territorial jurisdiction over Ogburo and its environs that fall on the same side of Odo Oba river in the State of Osun. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday advised Nigerian youths to postpone their presidential ambitions till after 2019. Buhari, who has declared his interest in seeking re-election during the 2019 elections, gave the advice shortly after signing Not-Too-Young-to-Run Bill into law at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He described the bill as a landmark law, noting that the bill showed that the youth can achieve anything they conceive if they work hard at it. The new law lowers the constitutional age limits for aspirants to presidential and legislative positions in the country, as clamoured for by majority of young Nigerians. It reduces the age qualification for the office of the President from 40 years to 30 years; House of Representatives from 30 to 25; and State House of Assembly from 30 to 25. The signing took place at the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Villa, in the presence of the NTYTR group of under-35 young Nigerians drawn from across the country, led by Mr. Samson
