Ajimobi, prophet with honour among Oyo Muslims

Image
“A prophet is not without honour, except in his own country, and in his own house,” so say the Scriptures. This was however not the case for the governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who was recently celebrated by the Muslim community of the state in grandeur. The community said it decided to roll out the drums in honour of the governor in acknowledgment of his penchant for promoting religious harmony and for delivering good governance. The Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, venue of the ceremony, witnessed an unprecedented gathering of Islamic faithful, scholars and preachers from Oyo State and across the Southwest zone, under the aegis of Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN). At the epochal event, the enviable award of “The Most Equitable Governor in the History of Oyo State” was conferred on Ajimobi for what the Muslim community called his equitable, fair and just relationship with Christians, Muslims and traditionalists across the state. Already, Aji

Accord Party directs Oyo chapter to deregister ex-Governor, Rasidi Ladoja POLITICS

Image
The National Working Committee (NWC) of Accord Party on Tuesday directed its Oyo state chapter to deregister former Governor of the state, Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja. Chairman, South East, National Working Committee of the party, Mr Innocent Igbokwe who issued this directive during an official visit of the NWC members to the party’s secretariat at Aremo in Ibadan described the ex-governor’s exit from the party as a blessing. He declared that his exit would also pave way for progress and true internal democracy in the party. He said “Accord party was established in 2006 while Ladoja joined the party in 2010 to contest the state governorship election in 2011. “Accord is a party, no single person can be powerful than the party. “Accord was not funded or owned by Ladoja, so, his defection to another party is his constitutional right and has no significant effect on the party in Oyo or nationwide. “The national body of the party did not enjoy his stay since he joined. “

200,000 PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV IN ỌYỌ STATE

Image
Dr Sani Aliyu, Director-General, National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) says an estimated 200,000 people are living with HIV in Oyo State. He made the disclosure on Tuesday in Ibadan during a courtesy call on Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State at the executive council chamber of the governor’s office. The delegation was led by Aliyu, included representatives of World Health Organisation, other international donor and funding agencies. Aliyu stated that only 16,000 out of the estimated 200, 000 persons living with HIV in the state are currently on treatment. “We have a gap between the number of infected persons and those on treatment. We have a gap between infected pregnant women and those receiving treatment. “We also have issues with the number of new infections recorded,’’ he said. The NACA boss stated that 10, 000 pregnant women in Oyo State are living with HIV, adding that about 50 people contact HIV in the state on a daily basis. He stated that the state

2019: We are not perturbed with your alliance – Oyo Senator, Adesoji Akanbi tells PDP

Image
The Senator representing Oyo South District, Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was not perturbed by the re-grouping of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwarts to capture the state in 2019. Akanbi challenged the APC to come together and ensure “the continuity of progressives in power in the state beyond 2019”. Akanbi, however, warned against the infiltration of non – progressive elements into the ruling APC in the state, saying such might jeopardize the desire to produce a progressive governor in 2019. Going down the memory lane, Akanbi noted that some progressives in Oyo state laboured hard and remained consistent to ensure the return of progressives into power after the defeat of former governor of the state, Late Lam Adesina. He said “I am one of those who sustained progressives in Oyo state. I remained in the progressive until we came back to power in 2011. I used my resources, my time and my energy to keep the pr

Zambian winger, Augustine Mulenga, lost his twin daughter, on Saturday, October 8th, while he was playing against the Super Eagels of Nigeria, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom. Augustine scored a goal, but it was disallowed by the referee. Officials knew the winger lost a daughter but could not tell him because he offered hope in helping his country qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. I DON'T PLAN TO DEPOSE OLUBADAN ---- AJIMOBI TELLS BUHARI

Image
Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi yesterday said he would not depose Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji. Ripples over installation of new kings has prompted Ibadan youths to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the governor not to make any pronouncement that could further puncture the peace in the city. Addressing State House correspondents yesterday after a meeting with President Buhari, the governor said the issue had been hijacked by politicians. He said: “I assured him that come rain, come shine, I will never depose the Olubadan because he is a father; and a son does not depose his father. Even though he has done so many things that could be used to remove him, I will never remove him. We have to continue to show respect. “I also made him to realise that, that particular chieftaincy declaration is being politicised; politicians have hijacked it. Of 11 council members, two of them are dead, and we have nine remaining. It is only one who is not suppor

My case against Gov. Ajimobi, others, by Olubadan

Image
The royal rumble in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State,  which  has been on for four months, is yet to abate as the city is now being ruled traditionally from two seats of power. Since Governor Abiola Ajimobi installed the new 21 kings on August 27, 2017, the residence of the Olubadan, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Adetunji, which is the palace of the Olubada, has ceased to be the meeting venue for the city’s traditional institution. Olubadan Adetunji’s former high chiefs, who have now been promoted to the status of full-fledged kings with beaded crowns, now meet at the ancient Mapo Hall as the official venue for the meeting of the Obas-in-Council.  This is in line with the reviewed declaration. Expectedly, the Olubadan and High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, who are not comfortable with the review of the 1959 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration, have since stayed away from the new meeting venue. Though three meetings have been held by the new kings at Mapo, the third meeting, held two Wed

SUPER EAGLES BECOMES FIRST AFRICAN TEAM TO QUALIFY FOR RUSSIA 2018

Image
Nigeria became the first African country to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, after they beat Zambia 1-0 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital. The first half of the encounter ended goalless, with the Chipolopolo the better side, troubling the Super Eagles with their pace in attack. However, in the second half, the game swung the hosts’ way, after Gernot Rohr introduced Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi for Simon Moses. Iwobi finished off a fine move down the right, following nice combination play between Victor Moses and Shehu Abdullahi. Nigeria now have 13 points at the top of Group and an unassailable six-point lead ahead of Zambia, with one round of games left. They join other countries like Brazil, Spain, Mexico, England, Germany, Iran, South Korea, etc. who have also booked their places at next year’s tournament.

Nollywood actor, Odunlade Adekola, opens up on why he is back to school

Image
Nollywood actor, Odunlade Adekola, recently had an interview with Premium Times, where he opened up on why he went back to school. The actor is reportedly presently in 500 level studying Business Administration at UNILAG . PT: Is it true that you are presently an undergraduate at the University of Lagos? Odunlade: Yes I am presently in 500 Level at the University of Lagos studying Business Administration. As a student, I loved business studies and anything that pertains to leadership. That is why I am studying Business Administration. I am also of the opinion that when you study Business Administration, you can fit into any profession. As we all know, if you have a lot of money and you do not know how to manage it, you would squander it in no time. If you are a doctor, heading a hospital, and you don’t know how to manage the hospital, the establishment can pack up. So, the knowledge of business administration is the key to the smooth running of any organisation. I already have a

Olubadan: Renovating Traditional Governance in the Ancient City of Ibadanland

Image
No matter what you do, no matter who you are, take notice that tomorrow is on the way. No matter your profession, social standing or belief, take notice that change is bound to happen and happen again. This tends to shine the light on the review of the Obaship at Ibadan, as His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, stated during the crowing of 33 Obas at Ibadan on August 27, 2017, “today’s innovations are tomorrow’s traditions.” There is no area of life, immune to innovation. Without innovation, the human race would actually be retrogressing. That is why the Governor’s position on the reform is apt. No one can win an argument against innovation, particularly given the common knowledge that for over 30 years leaders of thoughts and many interested parties in Ibadan have consistently called for the review of the traditional institution of their Oba, the Olubadan, currently occupied by Oba Saliu Adetunji. Interestingly, Ibadan is made up of 11 local government area

Opposition bigwigs will join APC in carnival-like manner —Ajimobi

Image
GOVERNOR Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, on Thursday, met with executive members and stalwarts of the party sounding firm that opposition bigwigs had resolved to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). In what he described as a done deal, Ajimobi said the defection of thousands of opposition members into the APC was only delayed because of their insistence on a carnival-like event. At the meeting held at party’s secretariat, Oke Ado, Ibadan, Ajimobi said the opposition will be shocked at the calibre of known political figures to join the party. He described as rumours, those notions that he planned to dissolve the incumbent party executives from the ward to state level to foist his preferred persons on the party. In particular, Ajimobi said he would galvanise a united and strong APC in view of the fact that some members of the opposition were regrouping. Further discussions at the meeting saw Ajimobi assure members that all efforts were being geared to facilitate an

Mercy Aigbe Shuns Husband As He Marks Birthday Today

Image
Obviously, there might be no room for reconciliation between actress Mercy Aigbe and her estranged husband, Lanre Gentry. Known to always make noise about her husband’s birthdays, the actress shunned Gentry’s birthday today, October 7 and has not given a birthday shout-out all day. Though the last time she posted on Instagram was two days ago, its obvious Mercy is not ready to identify with Gentry again. Meanwhile, Gentry has given a birthday alert since Thursday night. The marriage of the Gentrys broke down in April when Mercy released some photos of her battered face which she claimed was wrought by her husband. On the morning of June 29, actress and mother of two, Mercy Aigbe released a video of her assault by husband, Lanre Gentry. Her husband later mocked her that she was telling a lie and he had never laid his hands on her. The seven-year-old union produced a son. The actress moved out of her marriage, reported to the Anti-Domestic Violence Unit of the L

Mr Adeagbo added that his Local Government has intensified efforts at empowering the youths with various vocational and Agricultural training to make them self-reliant. He advised the youths to remain at their best, focussed and having a mindset to be at the top in life. The Itesiwaju Council has also commended Governor Ajimobi being the architect of the modern Oyo State who has created the platform for competent people to serve.
